The goal of the flight was to set a new distance record for straight gas balloons, and they did! Troy Bradley and Leonid Tiukhtyaev launched from Saga, Japan on January 24, 2015. Their mission was to stay aloft for more than the previous record of 137 hours, 5 minutes and 50 seconds. After almost 7 days flying across the Pacific Ocean, the Two Eagles Balloon Team landed and the team’s distance of 6,646 miles surpassed the existing record of 5,208 miles; they stayed aloft for 160 hours and 38 minutes.
Congratulations Troy and Leonid from all of us at Balloon Fiesta and a huge job well done to the Mission Control team at the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum.
